End Pre-Trial Incarceration
More than a quarter million people are incarcerated pretrial every year in Illinois. Most of them are incarcerated simply because they can’t afford to pay a money bond. Pretrial incarceration is ripping our communities apart. Help end money bond and dramatically reduce the number of legally innocent people incarcerated in Illinois.
In Springfield, there'll be a rally and face-to-face visits with legislators to ask them to support the Pretrial Fairness Act, which will end money bond and dramatically reduce the number of people incarcerated in our state.
Governor Pritzker has made ending money bond his top legislative priority for this session, and your voice in Springfield can help ensure that your state legislators support our Pre-Trial Fairness Act.
Transition to 100% renewable energy by 2050
Last month, a federal energy ruling from the Trump administration signed Illinois up for an $864 million bailout for coal. This is a huge step back for Illinois and would not only set our renewable energy goals back, but would also raise energy prices for everyone in northern Illinois and increase the amount of unhealthy pollution in our state.
We have the opportunity in Illinois to pass the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA), a bill that will opt us out of this dangerous Trump ruling, but we are running out of time, with a May 31st deadline looming. CEJA not only pushes Illinois to achieve 100% clean energy, but also focuses on bringing jobs and economic justice into environmental justice communities.
CEJA will commit Illinois to 100% renewable energy by 2050, cut carbon out of the power sector by 2030, move our transportation to be cleaner and more accessible, and invest in our communities that have been harmed by the fossil fuel industry and left behind through the creation of clean jobs workforce hubs.
