Do you know about the Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival?

Poor People’s Campaign is a massive national movement to confront the interlocking evils of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism.

It's led by the incredible Rev. William J. Barber, II who announced in May 2017 that he would step down from the North Carolina state NAACP presidency (which he'd held since 2006) to lead "a new 'Poor People's Campaign,'" a rebirth of the Poor People's Campaign that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. began in 1968, just before he was assassinated.

Many Evanston leaders and residents--including Beth Emet The Free Synagogue's Rabbi Andrea Coustan London, Second Baptist Evanston's Pastor Michael Nabors, and Grace Lutheran Church's Pastor Daniel Ruen--are involved in this campaign, and events and activities have been taking place over the past year, building up to a national march on Washington that will take place on June 20. Buses will travel from Evanston to Washington on June 19. Organizers are hoping that 250 Evanston residents will participate.

To raise funds for the trip to DC and to introduce people to the campaign and its tenets, a variety of events are taking place.

The next one is a Leap Day Dance featuring world music and Motown that will take place at Lake Street Church of Evanston, with a suggested donation of $25 to $50 per person. For tickets click here. But no-one will be turned away!

If you can't make the dance but want to support a bus rider, you can make your donation here. It takes $150 to send one person to DC; $5,600 for a whole busload.

More information about the march coming soon.
