Beth Emet hosts panel on history of antisemitism.

From graffiti to murder, anti-Semitism in America is on the rise, prompting a panel discussion to provide some historical context at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at Beth Emet The Free Synagogue.

Rabbi Andrea Coustan London of Beth Emet said congregants requested the dialogue.

“People in our congregation are very concerned about the upsurge in antisemitism and wanted to get some perspective about what’s happening,” she said, adding they want to know how it compares to the past and to events around the world.

Panelists include David Shyovitz, associate professor of history at Northwestern University; Sara Yael Hirschhorn, visiting assistant professor in Israel Studies at Northwestern; and Lara Trubowitz, associate director of the Anti-Defamation League's National College and University Programs and education director for the Midwest region.

“If people can’t learn to be better people, I’m not in the right business,” London said. “The more that people know people who are diverse, the harder it is to be prejudiced against people.”
