Celebrated author, Evanston native Charles Johnson returns home to talk about "Middle Passage."
Johnson will be in town for the opening of a new play adapted from his book "Middle Passage" that's opening at Lifeline Theatre in Rogers Park. This is the 30th anniversary of the book.
Evanston Township High School (ETHS) senior Ashanti Cole will interview Johnson about his writing, his art, and his Evanston roots. Johnson is a Southern Illinois University graduate, former Chicago Tribune cartoonist, National Book Award winner, MacArthur Foundation Fellow, and University of Washington Professor Emeritus.
The event will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster Street.
Refreshments will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Lifeline Theatre’s adaptation of Johnson’s book is scheduled for a February to April 2020 run.
