Evanston Public Library Closed for Covid-19

“After carefully considering a multitude of factors and the rapidly changing news and best practices around novel coronavirus (COVID-19), all Evanston Public Library locations will be closed to the public beginning today through at least Sunday, April 12,” said Karen Danczak Lyons, Evanston Public Library’s executive director in an emailed letter this evening.

“We made this difficult decision in service of supporting the overall health and wellness of our communities and for the safety of our patrons and staff. Protecting public health is of utmost importance now.”

The letter continues:

We are still here for you and staff will be planning for current and future ways to continue to serve you.

Our digital library and rich research resources are available to you 24 hours a day at epl.org and through our Evanston Public Library app.

If you have specific questions for our librarians, there are email or instant messaging options which you can find here. Staff will be monitoring their email.

Any materials checked out from the Library will have a new due date of April 13. All late fees will be suspended and due dates extended during the closure period. Our bookdrops will be open for your use at the Main Library, the North Branch, and the Chicago Avenue/Main St. Branch.

Our entire facility will be deep-cleaned.

We are committed to keeping you informed through email, via our website, and through our social media channels.
