To reduce the financial impact to residents and businesses during the statewide response to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the City of Evanston has announced the elimination of nonpayment penalties and delay of enforcement measures for the next 60 days.

Elimination of nonpayment penalties

The City will eliminate nonpayment penalties for certain bills due to the City between March 16 and April 30 for the next 60 days.

This includes:

-- Liquor taxes -- Amusement taxes -- Water, sewer and sanitation bills -- Parking and compliance citations -- Delayed enforcement – The City will pause the enforcement of certain enforcement measures for 60 days, from March 16 through May 16, including water service shutoffs and vehicle immobilizations.

Business registration

Business registration fees will be waived for the remainder of 2020; however, businesses are still required to register with the City in order to facilitate communication. Registration letters will be mailed early next week.

Liquor sales

Liquor carry-out and delivery is now permitted with food orders from local restaurants.
