Call for Black justice news conference at 2 p.m. today at Fountain Square.
Fifth ward Ald. Robin Rue Simmons, along with Pastor Michael Nabors, Evanston/North Shore Branch NAACP, Gilo Logan, Logan Consulting Services, and other speakers and organization representatives will gather at Fountain Square today, "United with one voice, with one goal, and one commitment to lead our City to full repair of the Black community," said Ald. Simmons in a media advisory released Friday.
"This is an emergency. The damages of anti Black racism sustain systemic oppression as our disparities are widening in this time of Covid-19," Ald. Simmons said.
"We are encouraged by recent commitments and a growing ally community but we will not be satisfied until our people are whole, safe, and well. Reparations now, anything less is inadequate."
Speakers in addition to Rue Simmons, Nabors, and Logan, are:
Dr. Nichole Pinkard, Northwestern University; Dr. Kihana Miraya Ross, NU; Dr. Bessie N.A. Mbadugha; Henry Wilkins, Stem-School Evanston; Tasha Nemo, educator; and Carlis Sutton, educator.

Masks and social distancing are required.
