Covid-19: Saturday, August 8

Today's statistics for Covid-19/ Evanston residents  Confirmed cases: 901 (three new case reported since yesterday).  Deaths: 71 (no additional deaths since yesterday), according to the city's Website. Covid-19 statistics for Illinois For the second time in more than two months — and the second day in a row — the statewide count of newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 surpassed 2,000 in Illinois, according to the Chicago Tribune.


Today, public health officials announced 2,190 new cases of Covid-19, and another 18 people with Covid-19 have died. Before Friday, when 2,084 new cases were reported, the last time the confirmed case number surpassed 2,000 was May 24, when the state reported 2,508 cases.


Yesterday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced he is filing new emergency rules to require businesses to enforce mask requirements that include the possibility of fines up to $2,500.
