Defunding 102: Today at 3 p.m. on Zoom

The young organizers at Evanston Fight for Black Lives will host a Zoom event later this afternoon from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. with facilitated conversations about what police defunding is and what it would look like in Evanston.

If you're wondering what it means to defund the police, if the concept makes you confused or angry, if you support it, or if you just want to learn more, join the conversation. If you attended the first event last month at Mason Park, the group asks that you not participate in this session.

This is the second installment of the group's defunding education and community building events. You can register, ask questions, or volunteer here, or email evanstonfight4blacklives@gmail.com.

Also: a reminder that this morning, starting at 10 a.m., another group of young activists will be holding conversations about whiteness and race at seven stations along Central Street. The event ends at 2 p.m., so you can participate in both conversations!

DE's Mandy Eason will report on the Central Street event.
