Evanston resident and filmmaker Mychal Mitchell sent me this beautiful video earlier this week.

It's called Planet Evanston 2 and it's a follow-up to his first "Planet Evanston" video that I posted last year and which you can watch below.

This video includes footage from last year's Kwanzaa celebration that was held at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center last year, and which I encouraged Mychal to attend.

"I finally completed Planet Evanston 2 which includes footage from Kwanza which you invited me to," Mychal said in an email.

"I love filming, and that love of filming was developed through Evanston's art programs. I particularly like filming in inclement weather because it's challenging, which gives the production value. When people of the nation see this, I hope they can identify that our problems are universal.

I like the way Evanston remains true to humanity. As far as what Steve Jobs says, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to make a mark in society.

Those words were similar to what Mayor Elisabeth Tisdahl said to me years ago about my film career."

It doesn't usually take a year to do such a film, Mychal wrote, but, he said, "I've been working on my first Netflix release and that takes precedence of other projects."

We can't wait to hear more about that!
