I'm really looking forward to listening to this podcast, Reparations: The Big Payback, with actress, writer, producer, entrepreneur and activist Erika Alexander and documentary film-maker Whitney Dow! They're going to interview a wide variety of guests, including Ald. Robin Rue Simmons.

Find it and subscribe here.

In each episode, they’ll bring their varying perspectives to the table to explore the arguments for and against the controversial topic of reparations for Blacks folks in America. They’ll also investigate the underlying racist architecture of modern businesses, laws, policies and institutions that have roots in slavery.

Here's how they describe episode 1:

In the premiere episode, Erika and Whitney ‘show us the money’, as they travel to the American crossroads of business and slavery, Wall Street. They get personal when they unearth the pain and shame of human bondage, hidden at the site of New York City's notorious African slave market and lost burial ground.

The duo makes their argument in Black and White, when they crash a congressional hearing for Reparations Bill HR 40 and introduce the Rosa Parks of the reparations movement - Evanston, IL Alderwoman Robin Rue Simmons.

This groundbreaking episode concludes with a reimagining of a post-reparations America, that would allow for new possibilities, new leadership, and a new direction.

PS: If you haven't contributed to Evanston's community reparations fund, you can (and should) do that now!

And mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. for Dear Evanston's discussion about reparations with Ald. Rue Simmons and others (details forthcoming).
